2011 - Year of Sharing My Thoughts

Well, it seems I've left this part of my blog a bit empty for 2010. Reason could be that I haven't really done anything special last year or tried anything new since I've been back.

However, I do have a couple of places to recommend if you are ever in Toronto and want some good tasting food. ;) The following is one of my favourites but it's kind of far from where I live, so I usually go there for special occasions.

First is the Restaurant Malaysia (btw, it serves Halal food).
Location:
815 Major Mackenzie Drive East
Richmond Hill, Ontario
905-508-1432

My favourite dish is the Laksa...takes me back to my stay in Singapore, where food is the
most delicious! :) I took this picture after I ate some already hee hee.
The dish usually comes with the fat yellow noodle but my family and always ask for rice vermicelli. The rice noodle just picks up the flavour even better. ;) The dish has a coconut flavour, in the chilli creamy sauce with tender chicken, tofu...what's not to like about it?

You must visit just to try it. There are more Malaysian dishes you could try but I go there for this. :) Also, for Teh Tarik, hot or cold it's delicious drink.

Okay, so know I feel like going and eating this yummy dish. Must plan a trip up there with my family soon. Hmmm, maybe Chinese New Year?

Oh, they do have a website...check it out: http://www.restoranmalaysia.com

Au Jardin des Amis - French Cuisine in Singapore?

Oh yes, there is this sweet little French restaurant in the Botanic Gardens in Singapore that is a special treat! The restaurant itself looks fantastic and overlooking the trees makes you feel you are somewhere else. Well, in a garden as the name of the restaurant suggests.

You should book a table with a special someone and I'm telling you, you won't be disappointed. Everything tastes delicious there. There wasn't one dish I didn't like and enjoy. I was lucky enough to dine their a couple of times. It's always nice to have someone who treats you to nice places on special occasions and as I said I love food. :)

Of course there is a more Posh restaurant located in the heart of Orchard Road but I find the one located in the Botanic Gardens is more romantic and secluded. I wish I was there right now.

If you plan to visit Singapore, don't forget to look for this French restaurant.

When In Singapore

I had the pleasure of working in Singapore for eight years and I'm telling you this, the food there is amazing! When I was in university I met some friends who were from Singapore. At that time I've heard of Singapore but have always thought it was a beach with huts. You know what I mean? But when I got there I was amazed at the technology and the buildings were just like what you'll see in big cities like Toronto. Of course, Singapore has it's own charming shop houses as well and they are really beautiful.

Since it's Chinese New Year time right now, if you are planning or if you are already in Singapore. You must try this place. It's been around for 79 years and the food there is really delicious!

Spring Court Restaurant. It's now located near Chinatown. Check out the website.

My favourite and unique dish is the "Yu Sheng" or Lucky Raw Fish Salad. I've been to other established Chinese restaurants in Singapore and had the same dish but this place has the best in my opinion. It is a tradition for families and friends to eat this appetizer for good luck. The dish comes as shown here and what you do is mix the ingredients together with everyone at the table. While you are doing that you would say auspicious things to bring luck to everyone who participates. Things like good health, wealth, good luck with your business etc. It's quite unique to me because I've never known this Chinese tradition until I was in Singapore. Our family never did it, we never knew it existed! So go and experience this when you are in Singapore.

Since I'm talking about Spring Court, I might as well tell you that the Chilli Crab here is also the best in town. I love it. Even though I'm allergic to seafood, I take my antihistamine and go for it. I won't have a lot in case I really break out in a rash but it's so worth it! I love food so a rash is not going
to stop me. :p

You must be thinking how I got these pictures! Well, I actually know the owner of the restaurant and a quick email got me these cool pictures to put on my blog. Don't get me wrong, I'm not going to tell you something that I don't like here so these pictures were just helping me make my story come to life. Man, I can just taste the Chilli Crab just by looking at this picture. Wish we had this here in Toronto, but we don't. Singapore is so far away, I don't even know when I'll visit there again. I miss the sunny weather, especially now when it's freezing in Toronto.

Anyways, if you come across my blog and you are in Singapore, you lucky so and so, you should visit Spring Court. It's really a great place, especially now that they are in a new premise with really nice decor. I saw the place before the owner decided to purchase it and it was huge. I saw some photos from the website and it looks great.

Try it!
